MetaMask and casinos: deposit ETH step by step without picking the wrong network

The wallet

MetaMask will send your ETH over any Ethereum-compatible network, and it has no idea which network the casino takes. This step-by-step puts the check in the right place: before you press Confirm.

MetaMask is the wallet most people use to hold ETH and tokens on Ethereum and on the compatible networks, and it is also the one a deposit goes wrong with most often. Not through any fault of its own: MetaMask does exactly what you ask it to. Ask it to send ETH over Arbitrum to an address the casino watches only on Ethereum, and it sends it. The check is yours to make, and it belongs at one precise point.

Before you start

An illustration, not a real win: the figures on the screen are invented. Before your first send from MetaMask, check the selected network and make a small deposit.

The deposit, in order

  1. In the cashier pick ETH. If the casino offers several networks for ETH, as Shuffle does, pick the one where your funds are.
  2. Read the network under the address. “ETH” on its own means the main network.
  3. Copy the address with the button. Never by hand, never from a screenshot.
  4. In MetaMask select that same network from the menu at the top left.
  5. Send, paste the address and check it: the first four and the last four characters must match those in the cashier.
  6. Enter the amount above the minimum, remembering that gas is paid separately.
  7. Look at the gas estimate and confirm.
  8. Wait for the confirmations the casino asks for: 2 at Vave, 10 at Wild.io.
Confirmations required before crediting: Vave 2 for ETH, Wild.io 10 for ETH, 19 for USDT on TRC-20 and 25 on BEP-20
How many blockchain confirmations each casino waits for before crediting. The number says how many blocks have to follow your transaction, not how many minutes: every network produces blocks at its own pace.

The first deposit at a new casino is better made small, just above the minimum. If it arrives, the route is right and you can send the rest. If it does not, you have lost little and you have a simple case to explain to support.

The mistakes we see most often

The wrong network. The classic: MetaMask had been left on Arbitrum or on BNB Chain from an earlier session. The address is right, the network is not. Rocketpot writes that deposits from networks such as Arbitrum, Base and Polygon can be lost.

The max button. Send “the whole balance” and MetaMask takes the gas out of the amount. The casino receives less than the figure you read, and if it falls below the minimum the deposit may not be credited.

A token instead of ETH. If the coin field says USDT rather than ETH, you are sending a token, not ETH. The casino credits it only if the address is the USDT one on the same network.

An old address. Some casinos change their deposit address. Always take the one the cashier is showing at that moment, not one saved in an address book months ago.

A wallet with one 0x address connected to three networks, Ethereum, Arbitrum and Base, of which only one reaches the casino
The same 0x address exists on Ethereum, Arbitrum and Base, but a casino that credits ERC-20 only sees the transaction on the Ethereum network. The other two land at an address the casino does not control on that network.

What never to sign

A casino deposit is a send: address, amount, confirmation. If a site asks you to “connect the wallet” and then to sign an authorisation or an “approve” on a token, stop. An authorisation can let a contract move your tokens later on as well. The casinos we read do not ask for one in order to take a deposit. If you receive tokens you never bought, with a site to visit to “redeem” them, ignore them.

USDT from MetaMask

The procedure is the same, with two differences. In the cashier you pick USDT and the network, usually ERC-20 if you use MetaMask on the Ethereum network. And you pay the gas in ETH even when you send USDT: a wallet with USDT and no ETH cannot send. The gas on a token send is higher than on an ETH send. Everything else is in USDT ERC-20.

And for withdrawing

At a withdrawal the address is yours to give: the MetaMask one is fine if the casino pays on the main network. If it pays on an L2 or on BNB Chain, add that network in MetaMask to see the balance arrive. Minimums, caps and documents are in withdrawals in ETH, and the casinos where we read all of this are in the list of Ethereum casinos.

One last habit: before you deposit, decide how much you are playing and set that as a limit in the casino account. MetaMask makes the deposit fast; the limit makes it considered.

Questions players ask

Do I have to connect MetaMask to the casino site?
Not for a deposit. At the casinos we read a deposit works with an address: you copy it from the cashier and send ETH to it from MetaMask. There is no need to connect the wallet or to sign anything on the casino's site.
Why does MetaMask show me the same address on every network?
Because Ethereum-compatible networks use the same address format and the same key. That is convenient, but it also means the wallet will not warn you when you are sending over a network the casino does not follow.
How much ETH should I keep for gas?
The gas on a plain ETH send is 21,000 units times the gas price. MetaMask shows it to you before you confirm. Keep a little more than the estimate in the wallet, especially if you then want to send USDT as well.
The deposit is confirmed but the casino balance is empty. What now?
Check on the network's explorer that the transaction is confirmed and that the network is the one the cashier named. Then wait for the confirmations the casino asks for: 2 at Vave, 10 at Wild.io. If more time passes, write to support with the transaction hash.
