Ethereum casino bonuses: 150%, ×35 wagering and why loyalty counts
Where to play
The big number on a bonus is the percentage; the number that counts is the wagering. Here is the arithmetic on the Vave bonus, what happens to a withdrawal while a bonus is live, why no-deposit offers are worth little and why loyalty is worth more.
Ethereum casino bonuses all look alike: a big percentage on the first deposit, a high ceiling, and wagering to finish before anything can be withdrawn. The percentage ends up in the banner; the wagering ends up in the terms. Anyone playing in ETH or in USDT has one more reason to do the sum first: a bonus locks the balance, and a locked ETH balance keeps moving with the price of Ethereum.
The Vave bonus, with the arithmetic
Vave gives 150% on the first deposit: minimum 20 USDT to take part, maximum 120,000 USDT, ×35 wagering on the bonus. The sum on a 100 USDT deposit:
- deposit: 100 USDT;
- 150% bonus: 150 USDT;
- wagering required: 150 × 35 = 5,250 USDT of stakes.
5,250 USDT of stakes does not mean 5,250 USDT lost: it means all your stakes added together have to reach that figure. But every stake carries the house edge with it, and over a volume like that the expected loss makes itself felt. The package carries on across the next three deposits at 100%, 50% and 25%, each with conditions of its own.
What to check in the bonus terms
- The wagering and what it is calculated on. On the bonus alone, or on bonus plus deposit? At Vave it is on the bonus.
- How much each game contributes. Slots usually count at 100%; tables and live games often less, sometimes nothing.
- The maximum stake while a bonus is live. Going over it can void the bonus and the winnings.
- The deadline. How many days you have to finish the wagering.
- The excluded games. A list worth reading beforehand rather than afterwards.
Withdrawing while a bonus is live
While the bonus is live, the withdrawal waits. Ask to withdraw before the wagering is done and you usually lose the bonus and whatever you won with it. At Vave there is also a rule that applies with no bonus at all: clause 8.11 asks for the deposit to be wagered three times before it can be withdrawn. The other withdrawal rules, from caps to documents, are in withdrawals in ETH.
A bonus in USDT, a deposit in ETH
Many casinos express the bonus in USDT or in dollars even when you deposit ETH. The bonus is worked out on the value of your deposit at the moment it is credited. Deposit 0.05 ETH and the bonus depends on what that 0.05 ETH is worth at that moment, and from then on your balance follows the price. Anyone who wants simple arithmetic deposits in stablecoins; the networks for doing that are in USDT ERC-20.
No-deposit offers
You find them advertised everywhere, and they are worth little. As a rule they are small amounts or a handful of free spins, with high wagering and a ceiling on what can be withdrawn. They are not a trap: they are a trial. Use them, where they exist, to see how the casino is built, not to win anything.
Where the real value sits: loyalty
For anyone playing regularly, loyalty schemes, rakeback and cashback are worth more than the welcome offer. They hand back part of what you stake or of what you lose, often with no wagering to unlock, and they work on every session rather than only the first. Rakebit, for instance, puts rakeback and the welcome package under the same heading: they are two products with different rules, and they are better read apart. When comparing two schemes, look at three things: what the percentage is calculated on, how often it is paid, and whether the payment itself carries wagering.
Bonus or no bonus?
If you play a little and want to be able to withdraw whenever you like, turning the bonus down is often the better move. If you are going to play a lot anyway, the bonus buys you more playing time on the same deposit, provided you read the conditions. Either way the bonus does not change the casino’s arithmetic: the house edge stays where it is.
The casinos in our list of Ethereum casinos are not scored on their bonuses, because the offers change too often; we explain that in how we score. The Vave bonus, together with our own deposit and withdrawals, is in the Vave review.
